Make ROOT and Recovery on Lenovo P780

If you installed custom firmware, the likelihood that root access and a modified recovery is already installed there is very high. And when using the recommended ones, the probability is 100 percent.
Recovery is flashed via FlashTool. We get root through the MTKdroidTools or VRoot program.
It is possible to make root rights through recovery, we get the Superuser application

In this video I will show you how to install the official European KitKat firmware on Lenovo P780. In addition, I will show you how to replace the recovery with an extended one, how to replace the radio module on the P780 KitKat, which is relevant for Chinese versions of phones, and how to get ROOT rights on Lenovo P780 KitKat.

Hello everyone friends! Today is July 19th and for several days now Lenovo P780 phones have the official European KitKat firmware, i.e. Android 4.4 KitKat. This is quite an interesting event, because our Lenovo P780 phone was in line for this firmware, and yet the Lenovo people did it. Even for such a seemingly old phone, announced a year ago. They support it, constantly update the firmware, and make some minor changes, but they even installed Android 4.4. Those. very nice - thank you very much to Lenovo for supporting this device.

Everything's OK. In principle, sometimes there are small brakes, very little, but they are there. At least I noticed that. It is quite possible that the firmware version is still raw and a little later the developers will update and fix everything, but they say that already on Monday, July 21, this firmware will be asked to be updated on all Lenovo phones with European “Stock” firmware. Those. if you have chinese phone, and you installed the “Stock” firmware and then replaced the radio module, then on Monday your phone, as soon as it senses the Internet, will want to update, but will not be able to do this because you changed the radio module. The firmware that arrives over the air checks that all files are intact, and if you deleted some applications, or replaced the recovery, or replaced the radio module, then the flasher sees that the original files have been damaged, and is afraid of damaging something irreversibly - It just won't update the firmware.
You can install the firmware a few days before the official release. This became possible thanks to the forum http://lenovo-forums.ru/, for which I thank him very much. I took all the files from http://lenovo-forums.ru/. They will be posted on deposit. The link is at the beginning of the article right below the video.
In this video I will show you how to install KitKat firmware. There is a small nuance, since the firmware is now only available in the “OTA” version. It now exists in the “OTA” version - this is an update that comes “over the air”. This is not the firmware version that you install from a personal computer on any firmware in the Lenovo P780, while all data on the phone is formatted and new firmware is installed
So what do we need to do? Since the firmware is “OTA”, this means that before flashing the phone, it will check that everything is OK and that you have the latest firmware version - European 124, it will also check that you have a complete recovery, that you have the necessary radio module, all Google files, services in place. If the flasher feels that something is wrong with the phone, naturally there will be no installation. For all of you who have Chinese versions of phones, everything is not the same from the start. As a rule, you have an updated recovery and 200% that everyone has a changed radio module. By the way, in KitKat the radio module also needs to be changed, since by default everything works and receives very poorly. We decided that we needed pure Stock, European 124 firmware.
Now many will start asking:
Oh, I just changed the radio module, how can I change the radio module back so that later I can flash it and everything will be fine.
And I just changed the recovery, let me change the recovery back too, how to do this? Then I tried, but it didn’t work.
And you spoke, but you did not speak.
Therefore, we initially install clean, original, 124th European firmware on the P780 from a computer via a flash drive. We don't touch anything else. We upload the zip with the update to the root of the phone and launch the standard recovery. Our updates are installed and we get this VIBE interface, we get kitkat on our P780. After receiving kitkat, you need to immediately clear the cache. After that we use kitkat for the European version.

After flashing the firmware, we will find that our second SIM card, which is in the 2G slot, is not working well. This is also easily solved - we change the radio module. In order to change the radio module, you must first replace the recovery. We will change it using a computer. After we change the recovery, we can change the radio module through this extended recovery (TWRP). After this, we can also get root rights using a patch, i.e. file, which we will launch again from TWRP recovery. It's simple. Here's the entire plan for this video.
Before flashing the firmware, be sure to save all your data to your computer, maybe even in several places. Be sure to remove the flash card, SIM cards and charge the battery at least halfway.
I have a KitKat. Now I'll take it down. I'll install European 124 firmware. I already showed how to do this in the video, but there is one caveat: your phone can be either 2014, like mine, or 2013, like the one I don’t have in stock right now. The difference is in the buta. If you install 2013 firmware on a 2014 phone, you get a brick. Many people ask, oh, I threw away the box, how to determine what year the phone is. I'm afraid of getting a brick. What are you afraid of? We assume it is from 2013. We sew with 2013 firmware - we get a brick. Everything is simple here, it means our phone is 2014. We change the boot, download it again and get a working phone. No problem!
How to flash for a 2013 phone - .
How to flash a 2014 phone.
It's simple. Choose what year your phone is. We install firmware 124 and then continue. It will be interesting.
Everything is done very simply. We turn off the phone completely. Remove the “fast loading” checkbox.

And disconnect the USB cord. Here it is - I turned it off.

Open the flash drive and select the scooter, I have 2014 firmware.

I check that everything is fine.

I check the box “check amount”

and click on software update. All.

Now I connect the USB cable to the switched off phone. You should hear a “bang” from the computer, indicating that you have connected new equipment. And the flashing process began!

After everything is over, we should see the following window:

Everything is completed for us. We turn on the phone. Well, we wait, the first turn on of the phone always takes a long time. This may take 3, 4 or even 5 minutes. Those. You may feel like your phone is frozen. In fact, this is not the case, it just turns on for the first time. Be patient, and before you reboot it or do anything major with it, wait at least 10 minutes. As a rule, 4-5 minutes.
The P780 phone turned on, it took me 3 minutes 15 seconds. Now it will launch for the first time, a license agreement has appeared. The 2nd SIM card should have poor network reception - this is normal. Everything worked out, we have the bare, clean, official 124th firmware for the European version. Here it is the latest 124th firmware. Everything is fine.

Now install the OTA update to KitKat. In order for the phone to install these updates, it needs to somehow feed them. To do this, simply copy the update to the root of the phone. The update archive is called “update.zip”. We don’t unpack it, but simply throw it into the root.

Disconnect the cable. It's not needed yet. Well, let’s check that we really have our “update.zip” file in the root of the phone, which has as much as 722 MB.

Wonderful. Turn off the phone. Just like last time, uncheck the Quick Boot box. Completely turn off Lenovo P780. Next we need to go into recovery, to do this we press both volume rockers and the power button.

Press and hold all three buttons until the image appears on the screen. The phone turns on, you can release the buttons.

And so the process began. Here's Booth's status, a little booger that's getting longer.

Those. The recovery found “update.zip” in its root and is immediately updated. As soon as this process is completed we will receive our kitkat. After 2-3 minutes of convulsive, monotonous hanging, the phone began to emit some signs of life. This is wonderful.
Now we will be asked to accept the license agreement. You can also go through a simple wizard that will help you select languages and configure your P780 phone. Here is the wizard, he offers to select a language, click next, further.

In any case we need to do full reset. And everything that you have now selected will not be saved and you will need to select everything a second time.
All. Ok. You can do a full reset from recovery. To do this, you need to turn off the phone and go into recovery, but you can do it much easier. Open the dialer and dial the following code ####7777#. We are asked if you really want to reset all your data because it will delete all, all, all of your user data. Well, of course we want to. Ok.

Now the phone will reboot. He will go into recovery and pretend that he cleaned something there. After that it will turn off, you will need to turn it on. And again wait 5 minutes until it turns on.
Turn it on. And we wait. Here you already select what you need, the language. This, of course, can be done later from the settings menu. But you can do it right away.
OK it's all over Now. Everything works for us. Everything is fine. I congratulate you! You now have kitkat installed, the latest version of Android that is available for our beloved Lenovo P780.
Now my second card catches the network very poorly.

This is all due to the fact that the European and Chinese versions of the phone have different hardware radio modules. Since we want European firmware for a Chinese phone, we must install a radio module, firewood from the radio module of the Chinese version. What are we going to do now?
We install TWRP recovery, then use it to change the radio module. We need an archive that contains all the files that are needed for further procedures. The link to the archive was above. The archive is quite large - 60 MB, but nevertheless it contains everything. We will change the recovery using a computer. To do this, you need to turn off the phone (turn it off completely). Uncheck the “fast boot” box. I don't have a cable connected to my phone right now. In order to replace the recovery, we need the recovery itself and the Flashtool program. I created a mod folder on my local drive D. recovery P780 kit-kat and I’ll prepare everything we need in it. We also need a TWRP recovery mod. Open the folder with TWRP, there are 2 files in it: recovery and scooter. We also put it in our folder. That's it, we have everything.

Let's launch the flash drive. Select the scatter file. I have a lot of firmware on the C drive and I need to make sure that we select the correct scatter file. Here is the TWRP mod. recovery, and here is the scatter file. To make sure everything is correct, the checkbox should be above the recovery item. Everything is fine with us.

To make sure that we have exactly the right recovery, double-click on it, go to drive C, and again find the recovery. And here is our recovery, I indicated it again.

Check the check hashsum box. And we press the download button, we are warned: are you sure? Of course we are. Click Yes.

Now the program is waiting. The phone is turned off. And now we just connect the USB cable. As soon as I connect it, the process should begin. All.

Well, now we directly go into our modified TWRP recovery. If you were unable to enter recovery the first time and the phone started to turn on, then there is no point in turning off the phone and trying to enter recovery again. You will need to sew it again. This is due to the files in Android that the recovery should replace when turned on for the first time. In general, the algorithm is as follows:
We flash the rakveri and go into it.
If it doesn’t work, flash it again and try to log into it again.
After we enter it, the recovery will remain and will not fly off. Now we need the radio module files. To do this, exit recovery by selecting “restart phone”

We connect the phone to the computer, place the radio module on the phone and only then go into recovery. I will change to 51 radio module, since I personally tested it, I like it. It works well. The guys from YouTube, and my subscribers and viewers say that they tried everything, 52 gives the best results. I don't know. I will post you a huge number of these modules. Here they are. See what you like, then take it. These are modules, others.

These are modules specifically for kitkat firmware on P780. They contain some changes regarding radio modules for older firmware. I will install 51 radio modules. If you want to try everything, copy everything and try it one by one, test it. Now we have 4 modules on the phone. Turn off the phone and go into recovery, to do this we hold down both volume buttons, then the power button and wait until the phone starts up.
We went into TWRP recovery. We choose what we want to install.

Select our radio module. I want 51 radio modules. I choose him.

After that, clear the cache.

At the end we reboot.

The Lenovo P780 phone turned on. We see all the “antennas”, that is, the phone catches the network well.

Let's make sure that we have exactly 51 radio modules installed.

Yes, radio module 51. Just as I wanted. In this regard, everything is fine with us. Again, all the sticks are caught. I tested it, it catches well, at least here in Moldova, in Chisinau it works perfectly. My first SIM card is Molded, the second is Orange. Works great. How I tested it: I talked on the phone, people can hear me, and I can hear people the same way. No problem. We received a great phone that works for us on kitkat. It seems to work smoothly, but it seems to lag a little. He sometimes thinks when he does something for the first time, and then he flies.

Installing ROOT
We connect our Lenovo P780 to the computer and copy the files for ROOT to the root of the phone. This is the archive of superuser and MobileUncle with which we will make sure that we have ROOT rights.

We remove the cable, we won’t need it anymore, if of course everything goes well. Install MobileUncle via a file browser. We select MobileUncle and install, we are told that the phone is prohibited from installing applications from unknown places, but we will change the settings and allow installation from unknown places. Let's try installing MobileUncle again. We open it right away. We see that we do not have ROOT rights. It's unfortunate...

Turn off the phone. We go into TWRP recovery, press 2 rockers, wait a second and press power. I hold all 3 buttons, as soon as Lenovo vibrates and the message appears, I release all the buttons.
We went into TWRP, everything is fine. Select the “install” item and select our superuser file, which we threw into the phone’s memory. If we want to install, we move the slider. Let's see that everything is fine. Successfully. And we reboot.

Now I’ll launch MobileUncle again, I want to make sure that we have ROOT rights.

With this, this long video can be considered finished. While the Lenovo P780 phone is still thinking. That's why he slows down a lot. It seems like he has moved away a little. Let's launch our MobileUncle. We are immediately asked by the superuser what this application(MobileUncle) wants to get ROOT rights. We allow him. And now we see the inscription ROOT. Which is exactly what we needed.
Well, that's all friends. I'm sure you don't regret spending time watching this video. If you liked it, be sure to like it. I will be very pleased. If something doesn’t work out for you or works out, be sure to write about it in the comments. But in any case, you see that I showed everything I did with the P780 in the video. Everything worked out for me, I got the latest kitkat firmware on my Lenovo P780 phone. Last module. Well, not the last one - I installed a normal radio module. Everything works well. So I’m sure that you have problems too, but it simply cannot be. But still, if you need anything, be sure to write. I will try, if possible, to help you.
Thank you all. Bye. Don’t forget to like the video and write good or not so successful results of your attempts in the comments.

Few models of Android smartphones from the famous manufacturer Lenovo can be characterized by such a level of prevalence and popularity as the IdeaPhone P780. This is indeed a very successful device at the time of its release and, despite the fact that this phone is considered obsolete, it specifications allow you to satisfy most of the needs of the average user today. Below we will talk about working with the system software of the device in terms of its restoration, replacement and updating, that is, about the firmware of the model.

Lenovo software components can be updated, reinstalled, customized, and, if necessary, restored using tools and methods available to all users. Almost all situations that may arise are described in the instructions below, but before seriously interfering with the software part of the device, you should consider:

When performing operations in accordance with the recommendations below, the user is aware of the potential risks of the procedures. All actions are performed by the owner of the device at his own peril and risk and only he is responsible for their results and consequences!

Before manipulating the software part of any Android device, it is necessary to carry out certain preparatory actions with the device and the computer that will be used as a tool for transferring data to the device. Having completed the preparation in full, you can avoid many mistakes and very quickly achieve the desired result - a correctly and stably functioning Lenovo P780 smartphone.

Hardware revisions

In total, there are as many as four versions of the Lenovo P780 model, which differ not only in the region of use intended by the manufacturer (two options for the Chinese market and two international revisions), the software part (memory layout - for devices for China - CN, for international ones - ROW), year of manufacture (devices are conventionally divided into those released before and during 2014), but also in hardware (different ROM sizes - 4 GB and (only for “international”) 8 GB, different radio modules).

Firmware methods and software tools for different model variants do not differ, but different versions of system software packages are used. This material demonstrates universal methods for reinstalling and restoring the OS for the model, and using the links provided in the article you can find software suitable for “international” smartphones with a memory capacity of 4 and 8 GB.

For the “Chinese” versions, the reader will have to search for archives with system software files on their own. To help with such a search, we note that a good selection of official and modified operating systems for all revisions of the device is collected on the website, but registration will be required to download files from the resource.

The instructions discussed below were applied to a device with a memory capacity of 8 GB, intended for the international market - these are the smartphones that were officially sold in the CIS and are by far the most common. You can distinguish the model from the versions for China by the inscriptions on the battery by removing the back cover.

The information for the international versions is in English, while for the “Chinese” versions there are hieroglyphs and a blue sticker.

Drivers

The first thing you need to do before proceeding to install Android on the Lenovo P780 is installing specialized drivers.

Methods for connecting inoperative smartphones that are not detected by the computer are described below in the description. "Method 3: Scattering". In this case, the driver package posted at the link above is used!

Root rights

Obtaining Superuser privileges on the model in question should be considered an accompanying rather than a preparatory procedure before reinstalling the system. At the same time, root rights may be required to create a full backup of the system and other manipulations that precede intervention in the software part, as well as necessary in its daily work, so knowing how to get them can be useful to many users.

Equipping your phone with root rights is done using a tool, which usually does not cause difficulties even for beginners. Just download the apk file using the link from the product review article on our website and follow the instructions from the lesson:

Backup

Copying information usually stored in a smartphone to a safe place is a must before flashing the Lenovo P780 firmware, because if you manipulate the device’s memory sections, all information will be destroyed! Users of the model are highly recommended to make backups of any in an accessible way and whenever possible.

There are quite a large number of methods for protecting against data loss, and the most effective of them are described in the article:

In addition to the loss of personal information, users who manipulate the system software of the model in question may encounter another nuisance - loss of functionality of communication modules, which occurs after overwriting "IMEI" and/or is a consequence of partition damage "NVRAM".

It is highly recommended to create a dump "NVRAM" before any operations with the smartphone not documented by the manufacturer, then restoring this partition, if it is damaged, will not take much time and will not require serious effort.

It's much easier to create a backup "NVRAM" at the first opportunity, rather than if this area of memory is damaged, restore it long and hard!

One of the simplest methods for creating a backup "NVRAM" is to use the toolkit.

Restoring an area "NVRAM" is carried out by performing the above steps, only in step No. 5 the button is selected "Restore".

Android installation, update, recovery

After completing the preparation, you can proceed to directly flashing the Lenovo P780 firmware, that is, overwriting the system partitions of the smartphone’s memory using specialized software. Below are the official and more universal ways of working with the device OS in various situations. A method for restoring inoperative devices and installing modified (custom) firmware is also presented.

The choice of interaction method is determined by the initial state of the smartphone and the desired result, that is, the version of Android under which the phone will operate in the future.

Method 1: Official Lenovo software

One of the few methods of interaction documented by the manufacturer system partitions Lenovo P780 is software Lenovo MOTO Smart Assistant. This software allows you to simply and quickly update the official version of the system, that is, get the latest official firmware on your smartphone.

You can download the tool for working with Lenovo Android devices from the official website of the developer:

  1. Having received the package from the link above, install Smart Assistant by opening the distribution file and following the installer’s instructions.
  2. We launch the tool and connect the P780 to the USB port. Must be activated on the smartphone "USB Debugging". To enable debugging, just after connecting the phone to the PC, slide the notification shade on the screen down and check the corresponding checkbox.
  3. The model and its characteristics are determined automatically in the program. After displaying the information in the window, go to the tab "Flash".
  4. MOTO Smart Assistant checks for Android updates automatically. If it is possible to update the system software version, a corresponding notification will be issued.
  5. We press the button with the image of a downward arrow located near the information about the versions of the device and the future OS, and then wait for the update files to download to the PC disk.

  6. After all the necessary components have been received, the button will become active "Update", clicking on which will start the Android update process.
  7. The system will remind you of the need to create a backup copy of important information in a special request window. When you are sure that everything you need has been copied to a safe place, click "Proceed".
  8. The subsequent stages, which involve updating the Lenovo P780 system software, are carried out by the manufacturer’s proprietary tool without user intervention. The update will be transferred to the smartphone, the latter will reboot and start with new version OS builds.

Method 2: SP Flash Tool

The most effective tool that allows you to perform almost all possible actions with the system software of Android devices built on the Mediatek hardware platform is.

To work with the model in question, you will need a certain version of the application - v5.1352.01. You can download the archive with software files from the link:

Before you begin manipulating the P780 via FlashTool, we recommend that you read the material containing instructions for reinstalling the OS on MTK devices using the tool in the general case:

Using Flashtool, we install the latest build of the official system for the “international” version of Lenovo P780. You can always download archives with software for 4 and 8 GB versions of the model using the link below. Select a catalog that matches the hardware characteristics of the smartphone:

  1. Unpack the archive with the software and the Flashtool program into separate directories.
  2. Launch SP Flash Tool and load file into the program using the button "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt", located in the folder resulting from unpacking the archive with the software.
  3. Make sure the mode is selected "Download Only" in the drop-down list of options.
  4. Click "Download" and connect the previously turned off phone to the USB port of the PC.
  5. The process of memory overwriting starts automatically and lasts quite a long time. You can monitor the progress of the procedure using the filling status bar at the bottom of the window.
  6. Once the data transfer to the device is complete, a window with a green circle will appear confirming success - "Download OK".
  7. Disconnect the USB cable from the phone and start it by holding the key for a long time "Inclusion".
  8. After initialization, launch and configuration, we get the official Android version of the latest version released by the manufacturer for the model in question.

Method 3: "Sprinkling", IMEI repair

The instructions described above, which involve reinstalling Android on the Lenovo P780, are available for execution if the device in question is generally operational, is loaded into the system, or in any case is detected by the computer when it is turned off. But what to do if the smartphone does not turn on, does not boot and is not visible in "Device Manager" even for a short time?

This or a condition similar to it has received a comic, but at the same time very accurate name among users of Android devices - “brick”, and restoring functionality in such situations is “bricking”. To remove the Lenovo P780 from the “brick” state, you will need the one already used above SP Flash Tool v5.1352.01, package with official software version S124, and additional files recovery "NVRAM" And "IMEI", if a partition dump has not been created previously.

Using the method is advisable only if all other options for reinstalling Android have been tried and do not bring results! Before you begin the manipulations, you need to read the instructions to the end and evaluate your own strengths and capabilities, as well as prepare everything you need for recovery operations!

Let’s divide the process of returning the device in question to a fully operational state into three stages: creating a situation in which the “visibility” of the device by the computer is ensured; installation of system software with preliminary full formatting of memory; restoration of the software modem, IMEI numbers, which is necessary for the full functioning of the communication modules and will be needed after formatting the smartphone.

Step 1: Getting it done "visibility" "Preloader USB VCOM" V "Device Manager".

There are only three methods by which it is possible to access a “dead” P780 from a PC.

  1. First, let’s try pressing and holding the key before connecting the device to the USB port. "Increase volume".

Once the PC responds, you can release the volume button. If in "Dispatcher" still nothing changes, move on to the next point.

  2. We remove the back cover of the device, remove the SIM cards and MicroSD, prepare the cable connected to the USB port of the PC, open "Device Manager".

Press the hardware button "Reset", located slightly below the memory card slot, and hold it. Without letting go "Reset", connect the micro-USB connector of the cable connected to the PC to the phone connector. Wait about 5 seconds and release "Reset".

If successful, the smartphone will be detected in "Dispatcher" as "Preloader USB VCOM" or how unknown device, to which you need to install the driver using the method described at the beginning of the article.

The connection is not always successful the first time; if success is not observed, we try to repeat the procedure several times!

  3. When the above does not lead to the visibility of the device in "Dispatcher", the most drastic method remains - to try to connect a smartphone with a disconnected battery. To do this we do the following:

Step 2: Android Installation

If the device is identified among the devices connected to the PC, it was possible to install the driver "Preloader", we can assume that “the patient is more alive than dead” and begin rewriting the partitions, that is, installing Android.

Step 3: Restoring communication functionality

The previous step of “scrambling” allows you to restore functionality operating system, but formatting partitions will erase "IMEI" and inoperability of SIM cards. If there is a pre-made dump "NVRAM", we restore the partition. If backup copy missing, you will have to use a powerful software tool to help MauiMeta 3G. You can download the version of the tool suitable for manipulating the Lenovo P780, as well as the files necessary for recovery, from the link:

  1. The package received from the link above needs to be unzipped.

Then run the MauiMeta installer - "setup.exe" from the program directory.

  2. Install the application following the installer's instructions.
  3. After installation is complete, run the tool as Administrator.
  4. Switch the connection mode to "USB COM" by selecting the appropriate item in the drop-down list of the main MauiMeta window.
  5. Open the menu "Options" and check the box next to the option “Connect Smart Phone into META mode”.
  6. Calling the option "Open NVRAM Database", available in the menu "Actions",

and then specify the path to the file "BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6589_S00_P780_V23" from folder "modemdb" in the directory with recovery components, click "Open".

  7. Click "Reconnect", which will cause the device connection indicator circle to flicker (red-green).
  8. Turn off the phone, press and hold on it "Volume-". Without releasing the key, connect the IdeaPhone to the USB port of the PC.

As a result of pairing in this way, the smartphone will be switched to "META-mode".

As a result of the program correctly identifying the device, the indicator should change its color to yellow and a window will appear "Get version".

  9. Make sure that the device and program are paired correctly by clicking "Get target version"— the hardware characteristics will be displayed in the corresponding fields, after which the window must be closed.
  10. If MauiMeta does not respond to the connection, check that the drivers are installed correctly in "Device Manager",

and if they are missing, install the components manually from the package available for download from the link at the beginning of this article!

  11. Select the option from the drop-down list "Update parameter",

and then specify the path to the file "p780_row.ini" in the window that opens by clicking the button "Load from file" from the catalog with recovery components.

  12. Click "Download to Flash" and wait until the parameter names change from blue to black, then close the window "Update parameter".
  13. Let's move on to recovery "IMEI". Select an option "IMEI Download" from the drop-down list of the main Maui META window.
  14. On tabs "SIM1" And "SIM2" enter in the fields "IMEI" the parameter values of a specific device instance (can be found on the phone box and its battery) without the last digit.
  15. Click "Download to flash".

Once the connection is restored, you can update to the latest official version of the system. In addition, after connecting the “revived” phone to Wi-Fi, the update will “fly over the air”.

Or you can use the instructions for updating the system above in the article - "Method 1" And "Method 2".

Method 4: Custom firmware

The most interesting systems for Lenovo P780, from the point of view of attempts to “refresh” the software part and introduce, frankly, the ability to perform new functions into an outdated device, are modified unofficial shells. Due to its popularity, quite a large number of custom firmware options for the model have been created, and among them there are very interesting and fully functional solutions.

When selecting and installing various unofficial systems in the Lenovo P780, you should carefully consider the memory layout that characterizes a specific instance of the device. The following applies solely to "international" versions 4 and 8 GB. For other hardware revisions of the smartphone, the same methods of repartitioning and then installing recovery and OS are used, but you need different packages with components than those posted on the links below!

Unofficial firmware VIBE UI 2.0 + memory re-partitioning

Users of the device in question have done serious work on customizing the software part of the device, which also affected the memory layout, that is, the redistribution of the volume of its areas. To date, about 8 (!) different layout options have been created and all of them are used when porting custom.

According to the creators of this idea, the effect of repartitioning should be observed as a result of deleting the internal section "FAT" and transferring the freed volume to the system for installing applications. This is best implemented in markup called "ROW+", we will equip the device with it according to the instructions below.

Among other things, we can say that most of the popular custom solutions for the device in question are installed precisely on this markup. And also on "ROW+" You can install modern versions of modified recovery.

There are several methods to convert the partition table, let's consider the simplest one - installing one of the modified OSes intended for switching to partitioning "ROW+". In addition to the new layout, as a result of completing the steps below, we get an excellent system on the device with a modern interface from Lenovo and suitable for everyday use!

Installation of the VIBE UI 2.0 shell is carried out using SP FlashTool in the same way as the installation of the official system described in "Method 2" above in the article, but in mode "Firmware Upgrade".

The VIBE UI 2.0 shell can be used on an ongoing basis or be used as a basis for installing other custom markups "ROW+", - almost everything you need is already present in the device.

Step 2: Equipping the device with a modified recovery

Since the above installed firmware contains custom recovery TWRP version 2.8, and this solution is used to install common unofficial firmware, this step of the instructions can be omitted. At the same time, we provide instructions for those users who want to get the functionality of new versions of the recovery environment, as well as for cases when the recovery for some reason has stopped working.

Just in case, let us remind you: to enter the modified recovery on Lenovo P780, with the device turned off, you should hold down all three hardware buttons - both volume control keys and the "Inclusion", and then hold them until the main recovery environment screen appears. And you can also reboot into recovery from the shutdown menu of VIBE UI 2.0 and other custom ones.

You can download the TWRP image of the latest version at the time of writing this material from the link:

The following works on most firmwares, but the Lenovo P780 memory must be partitioned "ROW+"— it is for this type of markup that the image offered for downloading above is intended!

Installing a version of custom recovery different from the one obtained after installing VIBE UI 2.0 can be done using various methods and all of them are described in articles on our website! We download the recovery image and place it in the root of the internal storage or on a memory card, and then select the method and follow the appropriate instructions:

Upon completion of the installation of the latest version of TWRP, the Lenovo P780 can be considered fully prepared for installing and replacing with each other any custom firmware intended for partitioning "ROW" And "ROW+". Let's move on to the next step.

Step 3: Install custom via TWRP

As mentioned above, a huge number of unofficial operating systems have been created for the model in question. The choice of one or another solution depends on the user’s preferences, and the installation of a specific shell package designed for TWRP is performed according to the same algorithm.

As an example, we install one of the most popular products, available in various variations for the Lenovo P780 model - MIUI.

There are a large number of port options for this shell; we recommend choosing a solution from one of the well-known romodeling teams.

Installing custom firmware

- SLXROM v.21
Via extended recovery (for example TWRP)
Placed on top of GravityMod2 or SLXROM without wipe data.
If you put it on top of others - wipe data is a must!
After installation, you need to go to Xposed Installer, Framework and click Install/Update. Then go to Modules and check all the boxes. Reboot the device.

- Color OS P780 Final Light
Upload the *.zip archive to your phone
In recovery we do:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
advanced => wipe dalvik cache
mounts and storage => format /system
install zip from sdcard => choose zip from sdcard => (specify the location of the firmware in *.zip format)

My phone had Chinese firmware and I didn’t want to upgrade it to SLX and ColorOS.
It gave the error E: unable to mount "/emmc
I first flashed it to the official one, then to GravityMod2, updateGravityMod2, and only then to what I wanted.

Memory Re-Layout

(I didn’t do it for myself, since I settled on Color OS)
A very small program that allows you to change the size of the user partition (DATA) and the internal memory card (SDCARD), thereby expanding the space for installing user programs. The program makes the same changes as the patch for repartitioning the data and sdcard2 partitions, but the user is given a choice of data partition sizes (from 500 MB to 3 GB), all the remaining space will go internal map memory (if you select a data partition size of 3 GB, the internal card will have a size of about 60 MB).
