Oblivion crashes during gameplay. Troubleshooting Oblivion. Sound does not work in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Known issues and solutions

Installation problems
If you have uninstalled and reinstalled Oblivion several times, some systems may give you an error the next time you try to uninstall Oblivion. To fix this, insert the Oblivion disc and run setup.exe. This action will resolve the error and you can uninstall and reinstall the game.

Saved games
Your saved games are located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion (or \My Documents\My Games\Oblivion) folder.

Before installing the game
Before installing Oblivion, please ensure that your computer meets the game's system requirements.

We also recommend making preparations by running a disk check (ScanDisk) and defragmentation (Disk Defragmenter) before installation. These utilities are part of the Windows® operating system and can find and resolve disk problems that may be causing problems with installation and/or the game itself.

To run these programs and optimize your hard drive:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Right-click on the icon of the drive where you plan to install the game (usually C:).
  3. Click on "Properties"
  4. Select the "Service" tab.
  5. Click "Run Scan" to launch Scandisk.
  6. When Scandisk is finished, repeat steps 1-3 and click on "Defragment" to launch Disk Defragmenter.

    Please note that defragmentation may take a long time. It is better to start it in the evening and leave it running overnight.

ATI Crossfire
Game performance on systems using ATI Crossfire will be reduced until ATI releases updated drivers that support Oblivion.

Error messages when starting Oblivion:

They appear as messages about dlls not found, like "d3dx9_27.dll not found."

To fix the error, open the Oblivion DVD and find the DXREDIST folder. Open it and run DXSETUP.exe. You will install the version of DirectX needed to run Oblivion.

Inability to create new saved games
If during the character creation process the Tab button was pressed while entering his name, a problem may occur when the game tries to write the save to the appropriate folder. This occurs because the character's name is included in the save file name in Windows. This usually happens when you try to switch to another program using the Alt-Tab keys while typing the name. If this happens, autosaves and quick saves will function correctly, but saving through the menu will not work. The problem can be solved by renaming the hero, this opportunity will be provided just before leaving prison at the end of the character generation process.

The following will be useful if the character creation process has been completed:

The player name can be changed using the console by pressing the ` (tilde) key and typing the following: player.SetActorFullName "Player Name" (where Player Name = character name). Press RETURN and exit the console window by pressing the tilde again.

You can also save games using the console, namely by pressing ` (tilde) and typing the following: save filename (where filename = your chosen save file name). Press RETURN and exit the console window by pressing the tilde again.

Input problems
Keyboard input problems may be the result of peripheral control devices. Editing Oblivion.ini may fix the problem. The Oblivion.ini file is located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder. In the section, change the setting "bUse Joystick=1" to "bUse Joystick=0" or simply turn off the peripherals. Make sure to save your changes. Please note that changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if the game is running when you make them.

Frequent game crashes due to an old system file
For some users, the game may crash due to an old system file. They may occur due to the file "mpeg2dmx.ax". Just rename it to "mpeg2dmx.ax.old" to fix the problem.

Frequent game crashes when an HP printer is connected
The program that comes with the HP printer can cause the game to crash. Before launching Oblivion: Press Ctr-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager. Go to the "Processes" tab. Right-click on any process starting with the letters "HP" and select "End." After this you can launch Oblivion. Note: You will have to restart your computer before you can use the printer again.

"FF" icons in system tray
Some players have reported that "FF" icons appear in the system tray during or after playing Oblivion. These are icons from a separate video/audio decoder you installed, called "FFDShow." This program processes sound files Oblivion, which, according to some users, causes the game to slow down and may leave tray icons. Remove them by simply moving your mouse over them after the game is over. Uninstalling FFDShow may fix this, but it is NOT necessary. You can follow the steps below to stop FFDShow from processing audio for Oblivion.

Instructions for disabling FFDShow for Oblivion without completely uninstalling it:

  1. Click "Start".
  2. Click "All Programs" (or just "Programs", depending on your Windows setup)
  3. Go to the ffdshow folder.
  4. Click "Audio decoder configuration."
  5. On the left panel, click on "Info & debug." This is the second line on the list.
  6. In the right panel, closer to the bottom, find the line with the checkbox "Don"t use ffdshow in:"
  7. Check the box and in the text box below it (it lights up when you check this line), add "oblivion.exe" (do not enter quotes). If there are already entries in the field, enter a semicolon (;) after them, followed by oblivion.exe. DO NOT use spaces because... ffdshow will consider them part of the file name. The correct entry looks like "explorer.exe;oblivion.exe" (without quotes).
  8. Finally, click "Ok" and launch Oblivion.

Working with a gamepad

While the PC version of Oblivion is best suited for keyboard and mouse control, you have the option to play using gamepads from a variety of manufacturers. Due to their differences, you may need to make some changes to the Oblivion.ini file located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder. Below are settings you can change to make your Xbox 360 controller attached to your PC work better with Oblivion. However, it should be noted that since the PC version of the game is optimized for play with a keyboard and mouse, the gaming experience will NOT be the same as using a 360 controller for the Xbox 360 version of the game. These settings can also be applied to other gamepads, but the given values will have to be changed again. Finally, the button assignments must be set in the game itself in the "Settings-Controls" section, called up from the main menu, but DO NOT change the movement settings (Forward, Back, Left, Right), as this will overwrite the changes made in the Oblivion.ini file.

These are the default Oblivion.ini values:

iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=6
iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

Change them to improve the functionality of the 360 gamepad attached to the PC.
;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
iJoystickLookUpDown=5
iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

Make sure to save your changes. Please note that changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if the game is running when you make them.

Updated launch menu (Oblivion Launcher)
The updated launch menu now includes options to change automatically detected Video Quality settings. These include "Very Low", "Low", "Medium", "High" and "Very High". If you select "Default", your system will be analyzed again and you will be offered the best settings for it.

TES-Diesel modding

Well, did it help? By the way, I found a solution for myself. I think it's worth leaving it here for the archive. So, in order for the character not to freeze when loading and at the same time the second version of the OS works normally, you need to install another version of Blockhead (bugs were observed on 9.2, installed 6.0 - everything is fine).

I haven't checked yet. (

I'll get to the game tonight, I hope)

Who knows why the game might crash when saving?

Play time 150h. Save size is 9MB.

The game crashes when saving in\ after the Three Piranhas tavern of the Living and Dead addon.

The reasons may be different: random access memory not enough, not enough disk space, viruses on the computer, corrupted save....

Oblivion began to crash when moving to another location. The load is somewhere around 95% and it crashes. Help mi:C

There is a small solution, it may not help much, but there will be fewer crashes.
Go to documents>Bethesda Softworks>Oblivion>Oblivion.ini>and try changing the following values (search for strings using the ctrl+f key combinations):
bRunMiddleLowLevelProcess=1 - set to 0
uInterior Cell Buffer=3 - set to 1
uExterior Cell Buffer=144 (if you have 2GB of RAM, if 4 then 288)
bUseThreadedBlood=1 (optional, it is advisable to enable it if you have a multi-core processor)
bUseThreadedMorpher=1 (optional, it is advisable to enable it if you have a multi-core processor)
bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1 (unload unused data from RAM, enable if there is more than 512MB of memory)
iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400 (cache size stored by the game on the hard drive, for 1 GB of RAM - 52428800)
bUseHardDriveCache=1 (allows the game to use the cache on the hard drive)
bLocalMapShader=0 (the game will not apply a “pencil sketch” effect over the area map)
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=10 (number of blood stains that can be displayed on the screen at the same time)
iShadowMapResolution An alternative to iShadowMapResolution (the parameter is responsible for the resolution of shadow maps cast by characters) can be set to 256, for example: iShadowMapResolution=256 or 1024.
bAllow30Shaders=1 (increases game performance on video cards that support pixel and vertex shaders of the third revision)
bLandscapeBlend=0 (makes the distant (LOD) landscape less blurry)
bUseWaterDepth=0 (makes the water opaque)
bDSoundHWAcceleration=0 (prevents the game from using hardware audio acceleration)
iNumHavokThreads=5 (optional, it is advisable to enable it if you have a multi-core processor)
bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1 (unloads unnecessary data from the RAM during fast travel)
iMinGrassSize=140 (grass density, the larger the parameter, the lower the density)
iThreads=9 (optional, it is advisable to enable it if you have a multi-core processor)
_______________________________________________________________________________
As for programs and mods, you can install: Memory Purger, Streamline, TeS4Edit, Operation Optimization (makes textures less detailed), DeParallaxer Mod (removes the effect of three-dimensional textures)
Maybe things are simpler: a crooked mod or a conflict between them, try turning off the mods one by one and checking how the game will work.
Hope it helps and good luck

Vlados, maybe the boot order is to blame. Wrye Bash, BOSS and OBMM to help.

Quite a bulky mod, it is likely that this could be the cause. The same goes for Valenwood Improved, Skyrim and Waalx Animals & Creatures. The more globals are installed at the same time, the greater the likelihood of glitches.

Hello, thanks for your answer. The loading order changed, first global mods, and then those that weigh little, etc., and vice versa. Wrye Bash does not find any conflicts, I do validation every time after installing the mod. But I noticed one thing, as you wrote to me, that the more global mods, the more crashes. At first I thought that my RAM was not enough, although 16 GB at a frequency of 2400 MHz, I think, is enough. I decided to reserve 50GB from the hard drive, but the problem was not solved. I don’t want to turn off mods, I’m used to it :(

Why can the camera move to the right and up in first-person view and how is this treated?

Perhaps the whole point is in the Enhanced Camera mod, when you swim or hold a weapon, it seems that your hand is twisted, it’s worth installing more new version and the problem should be solved. If there is no mod, you can try installing it.

I seem to be the only one who has encountered this problem, but you never know, maybe someone knows the solution: D The fact is that the character’s hands are not visible when viewed from the first person. As I understand it, they exist, but they are located somewhere below, behind the scenes: D I tried to shoot with spells, but they fly much lower than the target, and when talking with the NPC, they look up, as if my character is a giant. If you just look around, then everything is fine, the character’s body is displayed normally, the animations also work, when switching views, the crosshair remains in place. But as soon as you take out a weapon or cast a spell, you get this kind of trouble. I tried downloading the latest version from the nexus, it didn’t help. Obse latest version installed.

Figured it out [:)] If someone suddenly encountered a similar problem, download the updated skeleton from here

I have the same problem, tell me which skeleton you are talking about?

As I understand it, my previously asked question will remain unanswered....

Is Oblivion really working so well for everyone with a bunch of globals, quest additions, tons of HD retextures?

Unfortunately, I have the same problem, I used to have about 230 plugins, many of them global: Silgrad Tower, Hammerfell, Black Marsh, Improved to Skyrim, Elsweyr, Valenwood, etc. There were a lot of retextures, I changed almost everything possible to HD. I went into Oblivion.ini, made the water reflection better, 4k shadows, etc. As a result, there were crashes, but only when moving to locations or in places where there were the most objects, for example in Anvil. I installed a lot of productivity programs (Memory Purger, Streamline, TeS4Edit) and this solved the problem a little. It seems to me that this is simply the limit of the game, to withstand such a number of locations, objects - which have their own uniqueness, for a game of 2007 - this is just an epilogue. But in your case, you can go into Oblivion.ini (I described above what helps optimize the game), install the above programs, try to test each mod separately. For me to run all this, I needed quite a bit (16GB of RAM, GTX 780ti, i7 4770k) and also reserved about 100GB with the system, I don’t know if this helps or not.
Good luck, if you find a solution to this problem, let me know

Takirell

Explain one thing to me please. Here I have 1 GB of video memory, 3.50 GB (of which about 1 GB is always occupied) RAM and a Pentium Dual-Core 3.20 GHz processor. Is this enough to enable high textures (not Qarl, but regular ones) + install Oblivion Character Overhaul v 2.03 + New race + several mods for weapons and clothes? I’m interested in how memory works. OCO weighs about 800 MB and how much it loads memory and most importantly when? If I’m in the forest, where there is not a single person of the standard race and in general, then at that moment the system will not be loaded with this mod? Or let’s say the external textures of cities start loading only when I approach the city directly ?And how much does 2x anti-aliasing load the system? Is all this together normal for my system?

Well, I'll tell you this. The cloud itself does not consume more than 2 GB of RAM (console style). To fix this you need a specialist. patch.
Next - undoubtedly, the textures from Karl are divine and well made, but even installing them + optimized meshes under this pack, the game in some places gives a wild drop in FPS, and no matter how you tweak the ini files, pick the panel Nvidia control- you won’t be able to get rid of freezing and stuttering completely. This often happens to me when I enter a dungeon and for some reason at one point my FPS drops to 1-5. After restarting the game everything goes away, but after a while it happens again.

In the Region, as in Skyrim, a rather poor system for loading textures and models is used, this is evidenced by the inscription “Loading Area” in the Region, for example, and it is also characterized by stuttering, a terrible freeze, etc. at the moment when that same loading occurs. This action contributes to crashes, especially for those who have heavy textures. In general, I have seen dozens, or even hundreds of mods for textures with 4k and 8k resolution, and this is the most complete nonsense that you can think of. Why? Yes, because putting such textures on rather ugly models is at least strange and usually leads to problems with the game. I was personally convinced of this myself. In general, if you want to get confused with retextures, then install ENB after installing them. From my experience in Skyrim, I can say one thing: with Textures and WITHOUT ENB, crashes happen more often than with ENB.

I have FCOM without any retextures at all. That is, only FCOM and a couple more mods. The Ini file is tweaked as much as possible and impossible, there are all sorts of optimizers, everything is configured through the Nvidia panel, in general, everything is enchanted to the maximum and in the end I have what I have. (I have 5 GB RAM, 1 GB video card).
Out of curiosity, I went to a friend, he has a new generation computer: Intel Core i7 4790k, 16 GB of RAM, and a video card 980 Giraffe.
Its lags are less noticeable, but they still occur quite often. It's all about the game itself. With Skyrim it’s easier in this regard.
Of course, there are programs that will compress textures from mods without much loss of quality, but in practice this doesn’t help much, I’ll tell you. As for weapons and clothing, you can place them here without thinking too much; as a rule, problems should not arise.

I don't install Quarl. I mean the usual in-game textures. How do they influence? And what patch did you mean? How did you set up the game through Nvidia Panel?

Regular in-game textures are already compressed, compressed and packed into bsa archives. They are optimized for the game and will work fine on “ultra” on your machine, I can say that for sure. The patch is this: http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
How did you set it up through the panel? Easily.
Open the Nvidia control panel, then a window opens and select “Manage 3D Settings” in it, select Oblivion.exe from the list of programs (not the launcher or OBSE launcher) or add it if it is not in the list, and then disable and enable the necessary parameters)

Can someone share their experience on the optimal algorithm for installing plugins?
I’ve already tortured the game to the point where I can’t determine the actual cause of the malfunction (the game simply freezes at the loading stage, and the editor crashes when trying to render. For example, an unwritten head that looks with its eyes is drawn, but if I try to look at the whole figure, it crashes at once, when rendering cells - flies out).

There were a lot of gluings (for the sake of reducing the download list, and the matter was not limited to UL, a lot of things were glued together - weapons, clothes, animals... But it worked up to a certain point!), alterations for the sake of compatibility (yes, I preferred to straighten one of the " conflicting" plugins to ensure compatibility, rather than making a patch (see above), but did not keep records of what was changed and when).

The “pure” game is going quite well. And the same “Oblivion with guns” is not loaded with anything, but it still spins...

I think now it’s easier to roll everything over a clean game in a new way. But I am very concerned about the issue of exotic, and not so exotic, incompatibilities and specific errors during installation.

For example, Synx (or line elves?) has a “hard” path to the texture in the mesh of the female Ren head (Head01). Is this a bug or a feature?

How do various plugins for OBSE and other gadgets get along with each other, and what combinations should be avoided? Yes, and “ordinary” plugins do not always/not all unsolvable incompatibilities are mentioned (for example, for some time Ren’s Beauty Pack & Capuchine’sCE + MHE coexisted under HGEC, although in the description for MHE this possibility was denied, but BashPatch of all reconciled).

Etc...
And a lot of new versions of plugins have been released (I abandoned Nirn for more than 2 years - Wasteland, it’s only called that...). I haven’t looked at the same WAC yet. And I can only guess how it will make friends with the UL of the latest release and OOO 1.34b5. But the need for OCO also raises serious doubts, but I really like the setup via ini, which is what OOO is so lacking...

And I can’t even imagine what will come out of the UV_III&DR6 combination. Probably RGOM... 8)

The problem of validation is especially sad... There are very contradictory recommendations being given...

However, there are also ambiguities with BashPatch generation, like “am I doing everything right”...
And often this is a matter of combining plugins, which is not described anywhere, but many people know. Or not many...

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't install, won't launch, crashes, freezes

Fans The Elder Scrolls Oblivion sooner or later they face various kinds of problems. Among the most frequently encountered problems are when The Elder Scrolls Oblivion does not install, does not start, or freezes, slows down, or a black screen appears, and other problems arise during the game, in particular, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion does not save, controls do not work or there is no sound in the game, in this article we will look in detail at the main causes of problems and errors, as well as ways to fix them.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't install

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion System Requirements

Before installing The Elder Scrolls Oblivion on your computer, you should check system requirements, presented by the game developers. Remember that for correct operation The game must meet at least the minimum requirements. However, in some cases, even minimal settings may not be enough. In this case, you will either have to abandon the game or increase the performance of your computer.

Minimum Featured
OS: Windows XP
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.00 GHz
Video card:

128 Mb

RAM: 512 Mb
Free disk space: 4.6 Gb
Download DirectX

Of course, we won’t throw away the game, but we will work on the preliminary settings. In this regard, we will check our PC for compliance with the simplest requirements. So if The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't install, let's see if there is enough free space on your hard drive to install the game. The distribution requires free disk space, so a few gigabytes of extra space will not hurt. Also, you should keep in mind that various games require a significant amount of free space, up to 100 GB and above.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion installation is blocked by antivirus software

Often, anti-virus programs, in the fight against viruses, protecting our computer from external threats, block numerous processes performed by the operating system for security purposes. Sometimes such security is so strong that it begins to block access not only to viruses, but also to suspend some normal processes, perhaps by mistake, considering them potentially vulnerable. Hence the conclusion: disable your antivirus while installing The Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

Cleaning your computer and rebooting

Sometimes, simple reboot systems can immediately solve many problems that arise both during the installation of games and their subsequent operation. The same applies to various programs and applications. There are many reasons, as already mentioned: the computer is filled with various kinds of garbage, including an overflow of the system cache, the maximum permissible number of simultaneously running processes, among which, perhaps, some are frozen and are not running, but the load on the system is not bad at all. In this case, .

Internet access

During the installation process, some game clients require access to the Internet, providing access to the installation or update server. In this case, it is necessary make sure the Internet is working.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't launch

Before you look for reasons why The Elder Scrolls Oblivion won't launch, you need to make sure that the installation of the game itself was successful. Otherwise, if during the installation process on the computer any failures or errors were observed, but at the same time the game was installed, it is still impossible to guarantee the subsequent launch and operation of the game with maximum accuracy. If the game starts, you're lucky. However, what will happen next is unknown.

Reinstalling the game

Surely, many gamers have encountered a situation or, as you might call it, a cause or effect associated with reinstalling a game. That is, if the game installed normally, but does not want to start, reinstalling it can fix the problem. It is unknown what this is connected with, perhaps the antivirus or firewall “ate” some files or something else during installation, but after installing the game again, it becomes fully functional. Thus, delete the game and install it again, paying attention to every detail of the installation. Perhaps at some point the installation program will ask for some files, etc.

Searching for information by error text

Another option, it is not described in this article, but as a little secret that everyone knows about, we will add that an error when starting The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is usually accompanied by a corresponding system message. So, in this case, it would be true enter the text of such an error in the search, as a result of which you will receive the most detailed answer, and, moreover, concerning this specific error. This is how you will accurately determine the cause and, as a result, find a solution.

Computer news, reviews, solutions to problems with the computer, computer games, drivers and devices and other computer programs." title="programs, drivers, problems with the computer, games" target="_blank">!}

Running The Elder Scrolls Oblivion as Administrator

As an alternative, you can run the game as an administrator. That is, in our case, so that run The Elder Scrolls Oblivion as administrator, you need to right-click on the game shortcut and select Run as administrator. If this method helps solve the problem so that the error does not occur later, set run as administrator by default for this game. To do this, open the Shortcut Properties, in the Compatibility tab, check the box Run this program as administrator.

Game compatibility issue

Another obstacle for launch The Elder Scrolls Oblivion may be incompatible with your operating system. In this case, still there, in the Shortcut Properties, you need to add a checkbox Run the program in compatibility mode for:, and select the desired OS from the drop-down list.

Availability of .NET Framework libraries

Also, a very serious problem with running The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is the lack of the .NET Framework library installed on the computer, which ensures the launch and maintains the functionality of almost all programs and applications, including games. This is a prerequisite and Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed. At the same time, you should keep in mind that there are different versions of the .NET Framework library, and therefore the presence of any one of them on your computer cannot sufficiently guarantee the correct operation of the game.

Availability of DirectX

And, of course, perhaps the most important condition, a requirement that is necessary for absolutely all games, including The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, installed DirectX. Without it, no game will work. Currently, almost all distributions that in one way or another require DirectX installed already include this set. Typically, DirectX is automatically installed with the game. However, if it is missing, you need to download and install it. It is not necessary to do this before installing the game, you can do it after installation, but Having DirectX on your computer is a must.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion freezes

Video card problem in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion

The reason why many computer games freeze, including The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, is the video card, its incompatibility minimum requirements. For gamers, the video card is the main tool, the main success or disappointment. If your weak video card, then no updates, no drivers, and the like will help you. To achieve maximum effect and enjoy the game, A reasonable remedy would be to think about purchasing a more modern, stronger video card. The disadvantage of this method may be significant financial investments, since high-quality graphics and games maximum settings- the pleasure is not cheap, and buying a good video card can cost a pretty penny.

Installing and updating the video card driver

But don't despair. In order for the game to run more or less well on the computer, you can solve the problem even with a regular average video card; you can configure it, and also check all the necessary computer parameters to ensure a comfortable game. If your video card is more or less modern, then It is mandatory to have the latest drivers. Fortunately, you can download and install them completely free of charge from the manufacturer’s official website. After installing the drivers, as a rule, if you have an AMD or nVidia video card, then special software is downloaded along with them, which is installed on the computer, and thanks to which you can control various game settings.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is slow

Let's return to the problems described above, related, so to speak, to poor installation of the game. If there were any problems, it is quite possible that the game will often cause slowdowns, lags and other errors in the future.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion slows down due to unnecessary processes

If the game The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is slow, you can also check the operating system load. Any game itself requires significant resources to play and work correctly. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is no exception. If at the moment, in addition to the game, other processes are running on the system, you need to check them and determine how important they are at the moment. As a quick solution, close all unnecessary processes and leave only the most necessary ones. The main thing here is not to overdo it, otherwise you can close everything in the world so that the computer itself simply stops.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion slows down due to weak internet

Another point is Internet access. If the game requires good high-speed Internet, then of course the problem is obvious and, in principle, understandable. Therefore, it is worth thinking about purchasing a more powerful tariff. But there are situations when, even with a good Internet connection, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion slows down. For example, at a certain moment, an update of an application on the computer began, for example, an antivirus, not to mention if movies were downloaded along with the game. Or maybe you watched a video, for example about Walkthrough of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and played the game at the same time!? Thus, anything will slow down here. Decide one thing: either a movie or a game. And if you need both, then at a minimum the computer must have "thermonuclear" properties. Do you understand what we mean!?

First, check whether your PC's specifications meet the minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows XP
  • Processor: 2 GHz
  • Memory: 512 MB
  • Video: Direct3D-compatible video card with 128 MB of memory
  • HDD: 4.6 GB free space

Be sure to update your video card drivers and other software

Before you remember the worst words and express them towards the developers, do not forget to go to the official website of the manufacturer of your video card and download the latest drivers. Often, drivers specially optimized for them are prepared for the release of games. You can also try installing a later version of drivers if the problem is not solved by installing the current version.

It is important to remember that you should only download the final versions of video cards - try not to use beta versions, as they may have a large number of unfound and unfixed errors.

Do not forget that for stable operation of games, installation of the latest version of DirectX is often required, which can always be downloaded from the official Microsoft website.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't launch

Many problems with launching games occur due to incorrect installation. Check if there were any errors during installation, try uninstalling the game and running the installer again, after disabling the antivirus - often files necessary for the game to work are deleted by mistake. It is also important to remember that the path to the folder with the installed game should not contain Cyrillic characters - use only Latin letters and numbers for directory names.

It also doesn’t hurt to check if there is enough space on the HDD for installation. You can try to run the game as Administrator in compatibility mode for different versions of Windows.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is slow. Low FPS. Lags. Friezes. Freezes

First, install the latest drivers for your video card; this can significantly increase the FPS in the game. Also check your computer's load in the task manager (opened by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE). If before starting the game you see that some process is consuming too many resources, turn off its program or simply end this process from the task manager.

Next, go to the graphics settings in the game. First of all, turn off anti-aliasing and try lowering the post-processing settings. Many of them consume a lot of resources and disabling them will significantly improve performance without significantly affecting the picture quality.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion crashes to desktop

If The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion often crashes on your desktop slot, try to start solving the problem by reducing the quality of the graphics. It is possible that your computer simply does not have enough performance and the game cannot run correctly. Black screen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

More often than not, the problem with a black screen is an issue with the GPU. Check if your video card meets the minimum requirements and install the latest drivers. Sometimes a black screen is a result of insufficient CPU performance.

If everything is fine with the hardware and it meets the minimum requirements, try switching to another window (ALT+TAB), and then returning to the game window.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't install. Installation stuck

First of all, check if you have enough HDD space for installation. Remember that for the installation program to work correctly, the stated amount of space is required, plus 1-2 gigabytes of free space on the system disk. In general, remember the rule - there should always be at least 2 gigabytes of free space on the system disk for temporary files. Otherwise, both games and programs may not work correctly or may refuse to start at all.

Installation problems can also occur due to a lack of Internet connection or unstable operation. Also, do not forget to pause the antivirus while installing the game - sometimes it interferes with the correct copying of files or deletes them by mistake, considering them viruses.

Saves not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

By analogy with the previous solution, check the availability of free space on the HDD - both on the one where the game is installed and on the system drive. Often save files are stored in a documents folder, which is located separately from the game itself.

Controls not working in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Sometimes game controls do not work due to multiple input devices being connected at the same time. Try disabling the gamepad or, if for some reason you have two keyboards or mice connected, leave only one pair of devices. If your gamepad does not work, then remember that games are officially supported only by controllers defined as Xbox joysticks. If your controller is detected differently, try using programs that emulate Xbox joysticks (for example, x360ce).

Sound does not work in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Check if the sound works in other programs. After this, check whether the sound is turned off in the game settings and whether the sound playback device to which your speakers or headset is connected is selected there. Next, while the game is running, open the mixer and check if the sound there is muted.

If you are using an external sound card, check for new drivers on the manufacturer's website.
