teXet presents new “granny phones”: B114 and B116
With extensive experience in developing mobile phones for the elderly, the teXet team is constantly improving its products. The capabilities of devices are expanding, and their use is becoming easier and more convenient. We care about our users: over the past 5 years alone, we have presented about 15 models that fully meet the needs and demands of older people.

The teXet line of mobile phones designed for older people has been replenished with new models - TM-B114 and TM-B116.

The main advantage of the new products is the well-developed software shell design, which is suitable for people with impaired vision or impaired motor skills. The phones feature large buttons with easy-to-read fonts that are clearly visible on the 1.77-inch full-color display. An SOS key is provided for emergency calls. It is easy to find by touch and with one click the user can send a request for help to several numbers at once in the form of a call or SMS message. In this case, it is possible to simultaneously activate a sound signal to attract attention.

teXet TM-B114 and TM-B116 have a number of additional functions: for example, playing audio recordings in MP3 format and viewing JPG/BMP images. For data storage, there is an expansion slot supporting microSD/SDHC cards up to 16 GB. The phones can also be used as a voice recorder, portable radio (87.5 - 108 MHz), calculator or alarm clock, and the built-in LED flashlight will come in handy.

Loud sound signal or vibration will not allow you to miss an important call, and voice acting will allow you to accurately dial the desired number. Quick access to the contact list and exit to the main menu is via the central key.

The new products do not require frequent recharging; the battery capacity is designed for 6.5 hours of continuous calls or two weeks of standby time.

By analogy with DECT radiotelephones, the TM-B116 model is equipped not only with a standard charger, but also with a special stand. This greatly facilitates the use of the phone for people with low vision who find it difficult to insert the socket into the plug without glasses. The battery life will begin to replenish immediately after installing the phone on the base.

Models TM-B114 and TM-B116 with large buttons and a simple interface, they are easy to use while maintaining a set of necessary options. Affordable price and functionality make them an excellent gift for your elderly relatives.

Phones have become an integral part of our lives, performing a range of tasks at once, among which, of course, the main one is still the need to be always in touch. And today we will touch on the issue of communicating with elderly relatives, some of them quickly adapted and began using smartphones, but there are also those who find it physically difficult to use the screen and touch controls. This is where special versions of phones come to the rescue, popularly called “granny phone”. They are distinguished by the increased size of the buttons, large numbers and fonts, display elements and the presence of an SOS button. The Russian company presented an interesting new product in this category of phones by launching sales of teXet TM-B116.

There are 2 versions of the phone: teXet TM-B114 (phone with regular charging) and teXet TM-B116 (charging using a cup holder). We selected a version with a convenient charging dock, designed like a glass. In our opinion and that of a number of elderly relatives interviewed, the charging process is really more convenient than traditionally connecting a cable to the phone. Plus, this phone is inexpensive, you can see this in the summary table below, compiled based on data from the Yandex.Market service.

teXet TM-B116 review

Equipment

teXet TM-B116 is supplied in a compact package with a description of the advantages and performance data.

The package includes a charging station, microUSB cable, AC adapter, battery, instructions and warranty card.

Appearance

teXet TM-B116 is made in a compact case made of black plastic. Dimensions (52x106x14 mm) and weight (88 grams) are optimal for convenient placement in the hand.

They didn’t skimp on the build quality; all the parts fit perfectly together. The lid does not bend under finger pressure.

Corners and side edges are rounded. The shape is symmetrical, without protruding elements. Most of the front panel is occupied by a mechanical keyboard. It consists of twelve buttons with a telephone block and a two-position navigation key.

Digital characters are large. The receive key is colored green, the reset key is red. These same buttons are used for navigation and confirmation of actions.

The central part of the teXet TM-B116 button block is illuminated in blue. In the dark, the characters remain legible. Even with impaired vision, there should be no problems with readability. Additionally, dialing is duplicated by a voice prompt for the currently pressed number.

The buttons are easy to press, the travel is average, and the tactile feedback is good. The numeric keypad is convenient to use.

Above the keyboard, teXet TM-B116 has a 1.77-inch diagonal TFT color screen.

There is an SOS button on the back of the case. In order to find it blindly, the outer surface has a textured pattern. This button is necessary for quickly sending a text message or voice call. Data on blood type and disease are entered as a separate item.

On top of the frame there is an LED indicator that functions as a flashlight. On the bottom there is a microUSB connector and contacts for the docking station.

The case is collapsible, under the cover there is a compartment for a removable battery, a slot for one SIM and a microSD memory card.

Screen

Above the button area is a 1.77-inch diagonal TFT color screen with a resolution of 128x160 pixels. The display is simple, viewing angles are limited. The fonts are large and easy to read.

Software and work

The functionality of teXet TM-B116 is an example of minimalism. It’s not difficult to understand the menu: contacts, calls, messages, multimedia, organizer, settings.

Each section consists of subparagraphs. It is possible to store about 200 contacts in the phone's memory, for each of them a name and a separate melody are specified.

Multimedia capabilities include a player and radio (works without the need to connect a wired headset). The reception quality is good, the volume is acceptable.

In the settings you can adjust the volume and set general operating parameters.

The main calling function in teXet TM-B116 is implemented well. The speaker can be heard during operation and when placed in a pocket of clothing or a bag. The vibration alert is sensitive. The microphone is sensitive. The earpiece transmits sound without distortion. It’s enough for normal communication, but for older people the volume may not be sufficient.

Battery

A battery with a capacity of 600 mAh is responsible for autonomous operation. Considering that teXet TM-B116 is a simple phone, it lasts about 1-2 days battery life. The battery marked BL-4C is also used in a number of other phones. For charging, the kit includes a convenient docking station.

Results on teXet TM-B116

teXet TM-B116 with enlarged buttons and numbers, voice prompts, an emergency button, a flashlight, and expanded equipment makes it an excellent option for people with disabilities and elderly relatives. The only thing I can complain about is that the volume of the earpiece is not very high.
